Beaches With white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters its no wonder most people just sit relax and catch it all in. The hardest choice to make is whether to enjoy Playa Dominicus or Playa Bayahibe. Both offer access to beach chairs, food and drink. For a truly unforgettable day hire a car or boat and spend the day on a secluded beach or island.
Scuba Diving The heart and soul of Bayahibe is its scuba diving scene. The town has many diving centers ready to take you on underwater adventures. Whether you need to get certified or just see the marvels of the Dominican this is the place. The south coast offers: Wreck diving, Cave dives, Shark dives, Sting Rays and tons of tropical fish.
Snorkeling With such crystal clear waters and warm water its no wonder the water is full of snorkelers swimming around enjoying the abundance of tropical fish. There are many tour operators offering snorkeling excursions to nearby Saona and Catalina Islands.
Saona Island The seas around the Island are rich in wildlife, with many species of birds and tropical marine fish, and there are large areas where natural sandbars offshore bring the depth to just a few feet. Small boats stop hundreds of meters off the beach and disgorging tourists into the waist-deep shallows where they snorkel, drink and check out the fields of starfish indigenous to the region.
Catalina Island The island itself is a diverse preservation of eco-systems including sand dunes, mangroves, and reefs. Formed out of coral stone, the island contains three overlapping plateaus. The island was baptized “Catalina” by Christopher Columbus, who discovered it in May, 1492, on his way to the Americas.
Fishing Fishing trips can be arranged if you want to reel in your own barracuda, tuna or dorado. Pivate boats and a whole day on the water. At the end of the day you can BBQ catch on a private beach enjoying the sunset.
Surfing A day trip to El Macao which is on the Atlantic coast offers surfers and beginners a great day in the waves. El Macao is the fishing village on the beautiful beach of Playa del Macao.From the cliffs above are good views of the sea leading to a shipwreck which local diving schools use for classes.UNESCO has declared this beach one of the best of the Caribbean for its fine sand and abundant palm trees.
Skateboarding On a newly built street skatepark in Dominicus you can show off your latest moves or check out one of the local skaters.
Wakeboarding With such a calm ocean out infront of Bayahibe and Dominicus you can go for the ride of your life. Learn to wakeboard or practice your latest trick. With the small reef break outfront it offers a perfect ramp to try some moves.
Tennis Dominicus has a tennis court that is available for anyones use free of charge. Just book your time at guest services. Night time use is available for an hourly fee to pay for the lighting.
Golf This area of the Dominican Republic houses 3 championship golf courses, one of them being the famous “Teeth of The Dog” which is ranked 34th in the world.So make sure to bring your clubs when you come and visit.
Santo Domingo City Tour Visit the oldest city in the New World, Santo Domingo, founded by Spanish conquerors. You will visit Los Tres Ojos, the Lighthouse of Columbus which is a historical mausoleum where Christopher Columbus’ remains rest. You will also see the first cathedral in America, the notable colonial monument, “Basilica of Our Lady of Santa Maria La Menor.”
Altos De Chavon is a replica of a 17th century Mediterranean village located just minutes from La Romana. Here you’ll find artists’ studios, craft-shops, galleries, restaurants and bars to satisfy all types of visitors. Take in a show at their 5000 seat amphitheater that still attracts big name artists.
Horseback Riding There are a few stables in both Bayahibe and Dominicus so finding the right horse for you wont be a problem.Tours are aimed at everyone’s riding ability and really is the best way to discover the natural beauty of the Dominican countryside at leisure.
Jungle River Tour These tours take you on a amphibious truck or a floating restaurant up the ush river jungles of the Chavon river. See for yourself the natural beauty of the country and experience some of the filming locations from both “Apocalypse Now” and “Jurassic Park” movies.
Crazy Wheels Tours From seven to 77 year olds, these strange 4 wheeled motobikes will bring you pleasure and some new sensations. It is in the heart of one of the country’s largest sugar cane plantations that you will discover driving one of these strange devices.
