Welcome to Bayahibe located on the south coast of the Dominican Republic. Once a small fishing village that now caters to sun worshipers, divers and adventure seekers. Independent travelers took rooms in the homes of local families or in a handful of cabañas to use as a base camp for exploring the wildlife preserve and extensive cave system in nearby Parque Nacional del Este. Upscale hotel chains have since discovered the gorgeous coastline of calm waters and powdery white sand. Today the area has been divided into two parts: Playa Bayahibe – which remains a popular with independent travelers and divers – and Playa Dominicus. Dominicus, about three miles east of Playa Bayahibe, is a more up-scale all-inclusive resort haven with a small European community busy with giftshops and coffee stops.
